Cathedrals have historically been the home to many talented choirs and instrumentalists. The Missa Choralis or Choir Mass is established to afford local choral groups and touring groups who are visiting or traveling through the Kansas City area an opportunity to share their talents with those who come to the Cathedral to visit and pray and to perform in the wonderful acoustics found in the Cathedral.
While formal recitals are not the precedent, an opportunity to perform during a visit to the Cathedral is usually a welcome occasion and choirs are scheduled to sing as the calendar allows. Choirs are invited to sing at the following times during the Sacred liturgy: Prelude, Offertory, Communion Motet, and Recessional/Postlude.
WEEKEND MASSES 2:30pm liturgy on Saturday or the Sunday morning 9am, 11am or the evening 8pm Liturgy.
Singing during a Liturgy is by invitation only and is limited to sacred repertoire. During the Lenten Season choral music should EXCLUDE any Alleluia's in the text.
Touring choirs, local and diocesan choirs are invited to share music ministry at one of the Cathedral’s weekend Masses (Saturday, 2:30pm; Sunday, 9am/11am/8pm). Contact mpearson@kcgolddome.org for an application.
Please be aware that the Cathedral retains the right to reschedule a choir’s visit on short notice if a scheduling conflict occurs. While this is not a common occurrence, the Cathedral periodically hosts significant events and unforeseen occasions that might necessitate a change in schedule.
Please observe the following process when requesting an opportunity to sing at the Cathedral:
