Cathedral Summer Orchestra

Under the baton of Cathedral music director, Dr. Mario Pearson, the Cathedral summer chamber orchestra is a volunteer group of musicians comprised of all playing levels from the diocese and the greater Kansas City music community.  They gather and rehearse during the summer months each year to collaborate and perform music in a magnificent acoustical space for the Cathedral liturgical celebrations at the 2:30pm and 8:00pm Masses.

There are several reasons why this program was started:

  • Most school and church orchestra programs do not have summer orchestra meetings
  • Band camp usually doesn’t begin until late summer. [As a former music educator I understand firsthand the value of continued musical practice and growth over the summer months]
  • It is an opportunity for students to continue to be engaged in a musical performance with their peers and professional level players.
  • It is an opportunity to perform classics in a buoyant acoustical environment.
  • It is a chance to learn more and/or to be mentors for other musicians.
  • Music is provided in PDF format and available ahead of time to the players. We need string players, woodwinds, and brass [especially low brass and low strings].  Players may sign up for all performances or for as many as they can attend.

Whether you are a professional instrumentalist, orchestra member, high school performer, orchestra enthusiast, we hope you will join us for some exciting music in the Cathedral's buoyant acoustical environment.

Join the Cathedral during the summer to celebrate and collaborate on great music arranged for orchestra.  Contact Dr. Mario Pearson to sign up mpearson@kcgolddome.org
