Social Service Ministry
Vicki Koch, Director From the earliest days of its existence in downtown Kansas City, MO, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception has been committed to putting our Christian values and Catholic teaching into action by promoting the well-being of all members of the community, especially the poor and disadvantaged. The tradition continues today through the generosity of volunteers who serve over 12,000 weekend meals each year to the homeless at our Hospitality House and over 1,000 people in need of clothing, food and financial assistance at our Emergency Assistance Center. In addition, the Cathedral promotes social justice advocacy, senior care ministries and health and wellness programs that benefit all members of our community. SOCIAL SERVICES MINISTRY Hospitality House Then the righteous will answer him and say: “Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you to drink?” And the King will say to them in reply, ‘Amen I say to you, whatever you did for the least brothers of mine, you did for me’ Matthew 25: 37, 40 The Hospitality House, which is located directly across the church parking lot in Donnelly Hall, serves free lunches each Saturday and Sunday to our downtown neighbors who are in need of a nutritious meal. 300-400 guests each weekend enjoy the hospitality of our volunteers while being served sandwich lunches, fruit, snacks and whenever possible a hot entrée. Guests include individuals who are homeless as well as the working poor, elderly and disabled. The heart and hands of this ministry are the generous volunteers who serve one weekend day each month. If you would like to join a weekend team and are available either 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday or 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday once a month, contact Vicki Koch at 816-842-0416, ext. 112.
